I think it’s trailers and some gameplay footage (usually from Youtube)
images are always the problem when it comes to buying a game, you never know what kind of story or gameplay is held inside the game, it adds a little interest in the game but you never know if the graphics are dynamic the way you want it to be including the gameplay.
I prefer gameplay and trailers more since they show what the game is really like once you start playing it ;)
3 priorities :
1- gameplay footage
2- reviews
3 – price e.g vanquish game doesn’t worth 60 $
Trailers. If the trailer is epic, that makes the game look epic to me, even if the score is not high sometimes .__. (then I end up regretting getting the game xD)

News articles detailing the game makers (from production to music composition), the story of the game, the gameplay and a few pictures to actually see the game. That would be more than enough to make me buy or ignore the game.
Trailers usually spoil everything, the same goes for gameplay videos. Word of mouth and expos always give false impressions about the game. And gaming sites always give odd/weird rating to games.

Trailers are Ripp off , pictures are Ripp off (Wooper Pic is Epic but buy a Wooper sandwitch ==> Amiri Hospital)
And After Demos comes a Trustful, Epicaly, Worthy Friend review…i mean if you a friend that has the same taste as yours in pickin games…Go Ask him!
last, but not least (sometimes least) Gameplay trailers..sometimes they give a good impression of the game, and many times they dont (Cuz the game developers pick the best part of the game to show and impress u, MOney Money they think, Money Money they want, ask the force within u)
